The popularity of Movie Extra Tropfest, the world’s biggest short film festival, continues to grow rapidly in the national capital. With the 2008 screening in Canberra having the biggest crowd yet, over 20,000 movie fans enjoyed the fine weather, great venue and pre-screening entertainment made the 2008 16th annual Movie Extra Tropfest the best in Canberra to date.

Each year the Movie Extra Tropfest receives over 700 film entries, made specifically for the festival. Film entrants must follow a few essential guidelines – the film must be a maximum of 7 minutes and must include the Tropfest Signature Item (TSI). The TSI for 2009 is ‘Spring’.
For young filmmakers wanting to get involved, Trop Jr – the world’s largest short film festival for kids is open to chidren up to 15 years. For the first time, the Trop Jr finalists will be screened at the Canberra event from 2pm.
